The reduced Navigo fare is not just a list of eligible profiles. Several distinct mechanisms coexist under this name, each with its own supporting documents, activation times, and support restrictions. Understanding these mechanisms helps avoid disappointments during checks or renewals.
Navigo Liberté+ and reduced fare: an employer reimbursement trap
The Navigo Liberté+ contract applies a reduced fare for eligible profiles. This point is rarely put into perspective with the employer reimbursement rule.
Navigo Liberté+ does not entitle you to the mandatory 50% reimbursement from the employer. This legal obligation only covers unlimited travel subscriptions (Navigo Monthly, Weekly, annual). An employee who subscribes to a reduced-rate Liberté+ contract instead of a solidarity half-fare monthly pass thus mechanically loses employer coverage.
This distinction escapes many users who are eligible for both the reduced Liberté+ fare and a solidarity pass. The calculation deserves attention: a reduced solidarity Navigo Monthly pass for all zones, reimbursed at 50% by the employer, often costs less than a Liberté+, even when discounted, as long as the user makes a daily trip.
Before choosing, you should check the conditions of the reduced Navigo fare applicable to each option and simulate the actual cost based on your travel frequency.
End of cardboard tickets: mandatory migration to a Navigo support
The gradual elimination of cardboard t+ and Origin-Destination tickets changes the game for beneficiaries of the reduced fare per trip. Cardboard tickets have not been sold since November 2025, and their acceptance on the network will end in 2026.
For children aged 4 to under 10, large families, or holders of a disability card who used to buy individual reduced-rate tickets, switching to a Navigo support (Easy or Liberté+) is now the only option. This transition requires:
- Possession of a Navigo pass or an Easy support, along with the associated fees and the processing time for the personalized pass
- Prior registration of the right to reduction on the support, validated by a compliant document
- For Liberté+, the subscription to a contract with bank withdrawal, which excludes minors without an account or unbanked individuals
The stakes are significant: a user who does not migrate in time loses all access to the reduced fare per trip.
Activation of the reduced Navigo fare: deadlines and validity traps
The reduced fare does not activate instantly. It applies after validation of the supporting document at the time of subscription, or the following month if the user switches from full fare to reduced fare during the contract. This one-month delay is a frequent source of disputes.
The end of validity of the right follows a logic specific to each profile. For a child, the reduced fare expires at the end of the month of their 10th birthday, without notice or automatic transition to another scheme. For beneficiaries of AME or solidarity pricing, the right expires at the end of the validity month of the supporting document, which can create a gap if the administrative renewal is delayed.
The loading of the right to reduction on the Navigo pass can be done either online via the Île-de-France Mobilités customer area or at a commercial agency, at RATP counters, or at SNCF Navigo Services counters. It is better not to wait for the supporting document to expire to start the renewal: processing can take several days, during which the user travels at full fare.
Eligibility criteria for the reduced Navigo fare: what distinguishes each regime
The categories eligible for the reduced fare on Navigo Liberté+ are precisely defined by Île-de-France Mobilités:
- Children under 10 years old
- Holders of an SNCF large family card
- Holders of a simple blue bar ONAC card
- Holders of a disability card with “blindness” or “need for assistance” mentioned, or a Mobility Inclusion Card (CMI) with the same mentions
- Beneficiaries of the Transport Solidarity pricing (50% or 75% reduction)
Each regime has its own supporting documents. The SNCF large family card, for example, must be renewed periodically and is only valid if the family has at least three children. The Transport Solidarity pricing must go through the Transport Solidarity Agency, which verifies social rights (RSA, ASS, CSS, AME) before granting a right to reduction of variable duration.
Solidarity 75% and Solidarity 50% are not interchangeable: the rate depends on the social scheme to which the user belongs, not on personal choice. Beneficiaries of RSA or ASS supplemented by CSS access total free travel, while beneficiaries of AME receive a 50% reduction.
Reduced Navigo Monthly and Weekly pass: amounts and zones
For users eligible for the 50% reduction, the Navigo Monthly pass for all zones (1 to 5) is set at 44.40 euros per month. The Weekly pass for all zones is 15.80 euros. Intermediate rates exist for combinations of restricted zones: zones 2-3 at 41.40 euros per month, zones 3-4 at 40.30 euros, zones 4-5 at 39.30 euros.
These amounts, applicable since January 2025, concern only the 50% reduction. The 75% reduction and total free travel follow separate grids. Combining multiple reductions is not possible: only the most advantageous rate applies.
A point often overlooked: the Senior Navigo pass, available from age 62, offers a reduction on the annual subscription but falls under a separate registration process, unrelated to the Transport Solidarity pricing. Seniors eligible for both schemes should compare the amounts before committing.
